Victory! Kering gets rid of fur after PETA decades– a long-term commitment to persuading a luxury fashion company to remove fur from all their fashion houses. After years of PETA campaign (during which we worked behind the scenes, staged demonstrations and generated thousands of emails from supporters) and pressure from activists around the world, the last two Kering brands that have not yet banned fur – Saint Laurent and Brioni – get rid of the fur.
This victory has been built over the years
Almost two decades ago, Kering began removing fur from its brands when Bottega Veneta ditched fur – since then, PETA has continued to pressure the company to ditch fur from its other brands.
In 2017, after more than 20 years of our protests, including when a PETA member doused then-Gucci designer Tom Ford with tomato juice to emphasize that you have to be a vegetable in order not to realize the cruelty of using fur. Gucci, another Kering brand, has announced a no-fur policy.
In 2020, we unveiled our fur-free boardroom campaign by becoming a shareholder in Kering during the COVID-19 stock market downturn to push the company to move away from animal materials. Ahead of Kering’s 2021 annual meeting, actor Gillian Anderson wrote a letter on behalf of PETA to CEO François-Henri Pinault, urging the fashion titan to adopt a company-wide fur ban. And Kering confirmed that Alexander McQueen and Balenciaga were officially fur-free.
This year alone, more than 100,000 PETA supporters have taken action to urge Kering to implement a fur-free policy for all of its brands. Thanks to benevolent supporters and activists around the world, Saint Laurent and Brioni are discontinuing fur sales, resulting in Kering getting rid of fur entirely.
We won this animal round, but we’re not done yet
PETA is delighted that all Kering brands have now officially joined our list of those who refuse to use animals that are beaten, drowned, electrocuted, gassed or skinned alive in the fur trade. But other companies yet supporting this brutal industry. Take steps to convince Dolce & Gabbana to stop selling fur:
