This is a Hindu festival celebrated in honor of Lord Vishnu. It is celebrated in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Chhatisgarh, Bihar, Jharkhand and Maharashtra and, of course, some people in Delhi.
Dev Uthani means to awaken Deva or God, and Ekadashi means the 11th day. Therefore, Dev Uthani Ekadashi literally means a lunar day on which rituals are performed to awaken Lord Vishnu, who is known for taking care of the welfare of all people on earth.
According to legend, the irregular sleep of Lord Vishnu, when he was busy destroying the evil that he dedicates, and pouring out blessings on them, disrupted the rest of the goddess Lakshmi, his wife. She asked Lord Vishnu Ji to adjust his sleeping time so that she too would have enough time to rest. In the picture, viewers must have seen, when the Lord is resting, the goddess Lakshmi sits on the tips of his feet as if massaging his feet. Realizing his mistake and the truth of what Lakshmi Ji was saying, Lord Vishnu agreed to sleep for 4 months a year on a regular basis. Therefore, it is believed that Lord Vishnu Ji goes to bed on Dev Shayani Ekadashi in the month of Asad and wakes up on Dev Uthani Ekadashi in the month of Kartik.
